Professional practice oversight
Co-implemented by the Professional Inspection Committee (PIC) and the Professional Inspection Department, the general oversight program is used to evaluate various aspects of the profession and to verify the quality of OIIAQ members’ professional practice, taking into account institutions’ care management philosophies and policies.
Under the authority of the PIC, members from various regions of Quebec serve as inspectors. They are appointed by the OIIAQ’s Board of Directors for a renewable two-year term.
After visiting an institution, the PIC issues a report that is forwarded to all LPNs on staff and the nursing care manager.
Objectives
- Promote certain fundamental aspects of OIIAQ members’ performance, including competence (knowledge, abilities, judgment, attitude), compliance with rules of conduct and ethics and responsibility.
- Identify and point out situations that have an impact on the quality of care and services offered to patients.
- Encourage members to comply with generally accepted professional practice standards Competence Indicators and Code of Ethics
- Promote LPNs’ professional development.
Choice of institutions
Every year, the members of the Professional Inspection Committee select a number of public and private healthcare institutions, based on various considerations (information received, timing of visits or lack of prior visits).
