Competence
Competence refers to LPNs’ demonstrated ability or capacity to judiciously carry out an act or task in accordance with predetermined requirements governing professional activities. The notion of competence also implies mastery of the knowledge and attitudes required to practice the profession.
Competence indicators
Competence indicators are designed to enable LPNs to better understand and implement the benchmarks for providing nursing care according to the highest standards. They are also designed to encourage LPNs to maintain and improve the quality of their professional practice in accordance with professional values and with a view to protecting the public.
The PIC must ensure that LPNs fulfil the duties and obligations set out in the Code of Ethics and comply with the competence indicators.
